What to do when you're locked out
Stay calm and check the obvious first: a back door, a side gate, or a housemate or neighbour who has a spare. If none of those work, call us on 02 9069 1826 and tell us your suburb, the type of door and whether anyone or anything urgent is inside, such as a child, a pet or something cooking.
Please don't force a window or kick the door. It's easy to cause damage that costs far more to fix than a locksmith visit, and it can leave your home harder to secure afterwards.
How we open your door
Most residential locks can be opened without damage using non-destructive entry methods. We start with the gentlest option and only move to drilling a lock if it's faulty or high-security and there's no other way in. If drilling is needed, we explain why and give you the price before we touch it.
Because we carry common deadlocks, deadlatches and handle sets in the van, we can usually fit a replacement on the spot if the old lock can't be saved. You won't be left with a door that doesn't lock.
Checking it's your home
Once you're inside we'll ask to see some ID or proof of address, such as photo ID, a bill or a lease. It only takes a moment, and it protects you as much as anyone, because it means we won't open your door for someone who shouldn't be there.
Common lockout situations we help with
- Keys left inside and the door has locked behind you
- Lost or stolen keys, where we open the door and then change the lock so the old keys no longer work
- A key that has snapped off inside the lock, which we extract before repairing or replacing the cylinder
- A lock that has jammed or failed, so the key turns but the door won't open
- Apartment entry doors, security screen doors and side gates
